Mustangs VS Venom

The Madison Mustangs, currently the #1 ranked semi-pro football team in the Midwest and #4 Nationally by American Football News, defeated the Milwaukee Venom 70-0 in week 8 of the IFL regular season.

After a 3-and-out by the Mustangs defense to start the game, the Mustangs O took over and marched directly down the field, ending their first drive with an 8 yard pass from QB David Pietrowiak (Petro) to WR Reggie Davis, 7-0. After a Mustangs penalty gave the Venom a first down SS Mark Mashburn picked of Venom QB Brent Ferdinand and returned it to the Venom 26 yard line. On the ensuing play Petro connected to a wide open streaking Kyle Brodd and a 26 yard TD, 14-0. Two Venom offensive plays later, CB Jimmy Gordon makes an acrobatic juggling INT on his back giving the ball back to the Mustangs O at the Venom 39 yard line. After a roughing the quarterback penalty moved the ball to the Venom 24, Petro connected again with Reggie Davis, this time on a slant and a 24 yard TD, 21-0 and ending the 1st quarter scoring. On 3rd and 10 Petro connects with Davis, for a third time, and a 42 yard TD, 28-0. After another 3-and-out by the Stangs D, Venom Punter Greg Isaac lets loose a booming 62 yard punt, pinning the Mustangs in at their own 17 yard line. The Mustangs offense would then go on a 12 play 83 yards drive capped off by a 1 yard plunge by Petro, 35-0 at half.

PR Mike Darden returned the Venom punt 31 yards setting up another 3 play drive, highlighted by a 34 yard option run by Brodd, who 2 plays later, dove in from 2 yards out for his 2nd TD of the night, 48-0. On the next Venom series the Mustangs D wanted to get in on the scoring act. On an attempted Flea-flicker, DE James Kamoku hit Venom QB Ferdinand, knocking the ball right into the hands of DE Mario Brown who then ran 8 yards for a TD, 56-0. The Mustangs O ended the 3rd quarter with a 7 play 66 yard drive capped with a 33 yard TD run by HB Vithaya Phimmasene, 63-0. Back-up QB Chris Davis took advantage of another turnover by the Venom, ending the Mustangs scoring with a 2 yard dive into the end zone and a 70-0 score. The Mustangs D back-ups held strong in the 4th blocking a Venom FG attempt with just seconds left in the game, preserving the shutout.
