Mustangs end 2009 Season with Team Award Dinner Banquet
The Madison Mustangs had their annual Team Award and Dinner Banquet Monday Oct. 5th in the upper banquet room of Scatz Sports Bar. The evening started with drinks and time for players and staff to mingle and check up with each other. Dinner was then served, buffet style, Pork Tenderloin and Pasta Primavera headed the menu. After an excellent dinner Owner Bob Gingras began the presentation. In his speech he reminded the players how lucky they were to have gone through the experience the past two seasons and what it should mean to them in the future when they are no longer playing. Bob ended his speech by stating the League won’t slow down or get any easier for us; we will have to even more to prepare for the 2010 season.
After his speech Bob and Director of Football Operations Adam Smith wanted to recognize the players that were retiring from the Mustangs. They presented Kicker Jason Epps with the football he kicked for the game winning field goal in Ironbowl XII and his game jersey with embroidered logos and score from Ironbowl XII and XIII. Others receiving embroidered jerseys were: #32 LB Michael Galindo, #56 LB/DE Joe Conduah, and #77 C Corey Geise.
Next Coach Adam Smith reflected back on the season taking everyone through the process that led to another undefeated season and championship. He precedes that with what’s to come in the future for the Mustangs organization, what they’re working on and trying to accomplish for the 2010 season. After the “Mustangs vision” came the award presentations. Each award was voted on by the players, except for the Mustang Award which is handed out by the staff. Although football is the ultimate team sport and awards are individualized, the Mustangs staff feels, while it’s an oxymoron, players should be recognized for their season. Being the awards are voted on by the players they feel everyone has a part in the process. Each award was presented by their position side or position specific coach, with the Mustang Award presented by Bob Gingras. Here are the 2009 Madison Mustangs Award recipients:
- Most Improved Player – LB Ryan Mayer
- Rookie of the Year – WR Mike Darden
- Most Outstanding OL/DL – OL Chris Canty
- Offensive MVP – HB Kyle Brodd
- Defensive MVP – CB Jim Gordon & SS Mark Mashburn
- Special Teams MVP – K Jason Epps

Congratulations to the award recipients!
