Mustang Finalize 2010 Roster
The Madison Mustangs began official practice earlier this month to gear up for their back-to-back title defense. The competition at every position has been fierce, with veterans trying to hold off hungry rookies and new editions, everyone is battling and jocking for starting positions and playing time. With many surprise retirements and relocation of players the Mustangs have had to fill many holes in their roster. Some players they’ve acquired to fill key positions are:
QB – Derek Distin, Lake Country Cyclones (WSFL)
TE – Dan Zwirlien, Mukwonago High School
TE – Patrick Rohde, Valparaiso University
WR – Kristain Fasching, Stevens Point High School
WR/P – Tom Christianson, UW-Platteville
HB – Jonathan Wiggins, Roscoe Rush (MSFL)
DE – Larry Williamson, West Side High School (Gary, IN.)
LB – Ryan Aschaker, UW-Oshkosh
CB – Ritchie Maly, Waunakee
CB – Cody Jordan, UW-Whitewater
The Mustangs also welcome back: All-star OL Demetrius Walker, FS Chad Gunnelson, and FS TJ Ruegsegger.
Dan and Pat bring a much needed TE presence to the offense for the first time since incorporating the "Spread". Derek will compete for the back-up QB position. Derek is a former IFL All-star QB before the Cyclones left the IFL after the 2007 season. He’ll help solidify a solid QB corp. Jonathan comes to us from the Roscoe Rush. He brings a great combination of speed, power, and a physical running style that complements the other backs well. Kris comes to the Mustangs after playing at SPASH where he was a D-1 prospect at WR. Kris was also a former IFL All-star WR for the Milwaukee Venom in ’06. He’ll add speed and experience to an already all-star stacked position. Tom, from UWP, where he mostly punted, brings depth and a great work ethic to the Stangs receiving corp. Larry is a true "diamond in the rough". At 6’5", 265 lbs. LA possess great length, speed, quickness, and power at the DE position. He will be a force on the DL this season! Ryan brings much needed depth to the LB position with the retirements of Troy Dyzak, Mike Galindo, and Joe Conduah. Ryan has very good feet, feel for game, lateral movement, and awareness at the LB position and should push current veterans for playing time. Ritchie and Cody also add good depth to the CB position. Both are very athletic, possess good cover and ball skills and a willingness to tackle.
